I am based in the San Diego area and work primarily in oil. I completed certification in Art and the Creative Process through UC San Diego’s Extended Studies program in 2018. Some of my work is informed by experiences and perspectives gained through a long career in geoscience, which is summarized on LinkedIn. I began painting in childhood as therapy for a speech defect.
My aspiration in painting is to evoke emotion and bring pleasure through the creation of rich visual works. My work to date has emphasized shape and color and draws inspiration from Nature and a contemplative perspective of the human experience. Often I will be grabbed by an image in the media or a scene quickly documented with my iPhone that contains the kernel of a new piece. Learning to think of myself an artist continues to be a journey to somewhere unknown; I encounter something surprising at every step.
